Polkadot staking is painful...

"Nominator," "Validator," "Existential Deposit," "Minimum Active Nomination," and so on...

There are so many terms you need to know just to figure out how to stake on Polkadot, secure the network and earn rewards.

It's no wonder that there are 29,844 accounts who have attempted to stake, but for one reason or another, are not currently earning rewards.

The most common reason is that the account that tried to stake does not have enough DOT to meet the minimum required, which changes over time, and is currently ~329 DOT.

...but that changes with nomination pools.

Nomination pools, a new native feature of Polkadot introduced in Q4 2022, allows anyone to stake as little as 1 DOT. This is an officially supported method of staking in Polkadot, and funds are pooled together.

And, as of April 2023, users can now bypass the 28 day unstaking ("unbonding") period and immediately start earning rewards by switching to a nomination pool, using new functionality called "Fast Unstake."

This takes you to the staking section Talisman's Portal web app, where you can Fast Unstake if needed, and stake your DOT in a nomination pool to earn daily rewards.

About this page

The purpose of this page is to bring awareness to Polkadot's nomination pool staking and the "Fast Unstake" functionality added in April 2020.

Data was collected from the publicly available substrate-etl dataset and analyzed to find: a) wallet addresses that had previously attempted to stake (i.e. "nominate"), and b) currently don't have enough DOT staked to qualify for rewards (currently ~329 DOT).

The data analyzed to find the number of accounts featured on this page was collected on April 17, 2023.
